There are certain things we take for granted and and they fly over our heads as we're so used to seeing them, but they're often the most important, as can be seen in Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, which is old hat but is still nonetheless extremely valid today.

We’re so busy looking at how we spend our time ensuring sufficient payback, that we often forget that the basics actually assist with the more sophisticated matters. We will be more efficient and more effective if we maximise the positive impact of all elements in our working lives. There's nothing worse than being cold, or dealing with sluggishness caused by poor ventilation or getting used to screwing one's eyes up because the lighting isn't right. We all have our personal needs and it's very important to be conscious of them, and not let ourselves or our employers persist with environments that encourage the exact opposite of what we're trying to achieve, i.e. maximum impact and maximum satisfaction, both of the employer and the employee in the workplace.
